THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

The Northern Irish Number 12 at Bootham Crescent

This was York City’s home design for the 2014/15 League Two season, made by Nike in the club’s traditional red and white.

The number 12 belonged to Josh Carson, a Northern Irish midfielder who had joined York after beginning his senior career with Ipswich Town. Carson was still only 21 during much of the season and made 23 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals.

York finished 18th in League Two that year, during a period when the club was still playing at Bootham Crescent, its home for almost nine decades. That gives the shirt a strong connection to the old ground and a version of York City that no longer exists in quite the same way.
