On 20 May 1998, Real Madrid finally ended their 32-year wait for another European Cup. Facing a Juventus team featuring Zinedine Zidane, Alessandro Del Piero and Edgar Davids, Madrid won 1-0 thanks to a 66th-minute goal from Predrag Mijatović. It was his only goal of that Champions League campaign, but it was enough to give Madrid their seventh European title. The victory became known as La Séptima, one of the biggest moments in the club's history.

Real Madrid Waited 32 Years for Their Seventh European Cup and Mijatović Needed Just One Goal

Real Madrid had won six European Cups by 1966, but by 1998, they had spent 32 years trying to win another. On 20 May, they faced Juventus in the Champions League final in Amsterdam. The Italian side had reached their third consecutive final and had players like Zidane, Del Piero and Davids. Madrid, meanwhile, had Raúl, Roberto Carlos, Clarence Seedorf and Fernando Redondo.

The match stayed 0-0 until the 66th minute. Predrag Mijatović collected a loose ball inside the penalty area, went around goalkeeper Angelo Peruzzi and scored past the Juventus defenders. It was his first and only goal in that season's Champions League. Madrid held on to win 1-0, bringing the European Cup back to the club for the first time since 1966.

What makes the story even stranger is that Madrid had finished fourth in La Liga and manager Jupp Heynckes was sacked just eight days after winning the Champions League. The 1997/98 season also marked the end of Madrid's partnership with Kelme, as Adidas took over the following summer. This white-and-purple shirt was the last Kelme home design Madrid wore before ending their 32-year wait for La Séptima.
