Kroos Completed 952 Champions League Passes, More Than Anyone Else

Kroos’ 2015/16 Champions League numbers are kind of absurd. Across Madrid’s run to La Undécima, he attempted 1,007 passes and completed 952, leading every player in the tournament in both categories. UEFA included him in its official Squad of the Season largely because nobody moved the ball more consistently.

Then came the final against Atlético in Milan. Kroos started in midfield and delivered the free-kick that led to Sergio Ramos opening the scoring; Madrid eventually won on penalties. That gave Kroos a Champions League medal with a second club, after previously winning it with Bayern in 2013, something only twelve players before him had managed.

There is also a neat dating detail on this particular shirt: the gold FIFA World Champions badge. Madrid earned the right to wear it after winning the 2014 Club World Cup, before Barcelona took over the badge after the 2015 tournament.
