Inter Milan 2016/17 Home (XL)

At first glance, this looks like a fairly traditional Inter home shirt. Look closer and the 2016/17 design marks a change collectors can easily miss.

Nike kept the black-and-blue stripes but added a fine graphic running through them, giving the front more movement, while the sleeves were left completely black. Yellow was then used for the player printing and parts of the full kit, creating a sharper contrast than on many Inter shirts from the same period. 

The more unusual detail appeared on the back. Driver, a tyre-service brand connected to Pirelli, became an additional sponsor below the player number. Inter had carried Pirelli across the chest since 1995, but the Driver logo introduced the lower-back sponsorship that would become increasingly common across modern football shirts. 

The season itself was chaotic, with three different coaches and a seventh-place Serie A finish. Its appeal is very specific: classic Inter colours, a one-season Nike design and the beginning of a new sponsorship era on the shirt.

That makes it a good choice for someone who wants a recognisable Inter shirt without buying the exact same treble-era model everyone already knows.
