THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

100 Years Hidden Inside One Green Band

The most interesting part of this shirt is hidden inside Elche’s famous green band.

For the club’s centenary season, Nike did not simply print one solid stripe across the chest. Instead, the band was created from 100 thin horizontal lines, with each one representing a year of Elche CF’s history.

The anniversary theme continued through the rest of the shirt. Gold was used around the collar, sleeves and sides, while the centenary logo appeared on the back of the kit. Names and numbers were also designed in gold.

Even the launch was carefully chosen. Elche presented the shirt on 8 August 2022 at the Jardín Huerto del Cura, in the heart of the city’s famous Palmeral. The date was symbolic because 8 August is linked to the earliest recorded football match played in Elche.

The front sponsor is TM Grupo Inmobiliario, which had already been appearing on Elche shirts for several seasons and remained the club’s main sponsor throughout the centenary campaign.

It is a very simple-looking home shirt until you know what the stripe means: an entire century of Elche packed into the club’s most recognisable feature.
