The 1995/96 season marked a major turning point for Derby County. Jim Smith arrived as manager and guided the Rams from the First Division back into the Premier League.

Promotion was confirmed against Crystal Palace in April 1996. Dean Sturridge scored early before captain Robin van der Laan headed the winner, sealing a 2-1 victory and Derby’s return to the top flight.

It was also the beginning of Derby’s relationship with Puma, who became the club’s kit supplier that season. This PUMA King training shirt therefore comes from the campaign that started a new era for the Rams.
