THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

Basque Pride at San Mamés

This Basque Country 2005–07 home shirt is a rare piece from one of football’s most unusual teams. Because the Basque selection is not part of FIFA or UEFA, it only plays occasional friendly matches. That makes original Euskadi shirts much harder to find than normal national-team shirts.

The design was created by Astore, a brand founded in the Basque Country. Its green base and red-and-white details use the three colours of the Ikurriña, the Basque flag.

One of the shirt’s best moments came at San Mamés in December 2006. Euskadi defeated Serbia 4–0, with goals from Yeste, Urzaiz, Sarriegi and Uranga. The squad brought together players from Athletic Club, Real Sociedad and other teams across the region.

With its local manufacturer, flag-inspired colours and connection to a team that rarely plays, this vintage Astore Basque Country home shirt offers something very different from the usual international football shirt.
