Then everything flipped. Villa beat Liverpool 2-1 and went on to win nine of their final 11 league games, including victories over Chelsea, Everton and eventual champions Arsenal. No slow rebuild, no waiting for the next season, the turnaround happened almost immediately.

By May, Villa had somehow climbed to seventh, turning a bottom-half struggle into European qualification in a matter of weeks.
