On 24 October 1990, Aston Villa beat Inter Milan 2-0 in the UEFA Cup, against a team featuring Lothar Matthäus, Jürgen Klinsmann and Andreas Brehme. Kent Nielsen opened the scoring before David Platt added a second in front of 36,461 fans at Villa Park. Inter went on to win the competition that season, but Villa gave them one of their toughest nights. It remains one of the club's most memorable European victories.

Aston Villa Beat a Star-Studded Inter Milan 2-0 at Villa Park

On 24 October 1990, Aston Villa welcomed Inter Milan to Villa Park for the first leg of their UEFA Cup second-round tie. Inter had three players who had won the World Cup with West Germany just months earlier: Lothar Matthäus, Jürgen Klinsmann and Andreas Brehme. Villa, managed by Jozef Vengloš, were facing one of the strongest teams in Europe.

But Villa took the lead after just 15 minutes when defender Kent Nielsen scored from distance. In the 67th minute, David Platt made it 2-0 after a pass from Gordon Cowans. More than 36,000 fans watched Villa beat a team packed with international stars. Nielsen later described it as his favourite memory from his time at the club.

Unfortunately, Villa couldn't finish the job. Inter won the second leg 3-0 in Milan and eventually lifted the UEFA Cup that season. Still, the win at Villa Park is remembered as one of the club's great European nights.
