RCD Espanyol 2002/03 Away Pre Season Match Issue 'Oscar García #6' (XL)

Óscar García's career began at FC Barcelona, where he came through La Masia and became part of Johan Cruyff's famous Dream Team era. He was involved in Barcelona's run of four consecutive La Liga titles in the early 1990s before later playing for Albacete and Valencia.

In 2000, he made an interesting decision: returning to Barcelona, but joining Espanyol rather than his former club.

At Espanyol, Óscar was reunited with his younger brother Roger García, another former Barça player. He also shared the dressing room with Raúl Tamudo and Mauricio Pochettino, while Iván de la Peña, who had also played for Barcelona, joined the club in 2002.

The 2002/03 season was particularly difficult for Espanyol. After a poor start under Juande Ramos and Ramón Moya, the club brought back Javier Clemente in December to rescue the team.

Clemente managed to turn things around, guiding Espanyol to 17th place and keeping them in La Liga. Óscar played 29 league matches that season, contributing during a difficult campaign. 

The following season brought another relegation battle, with Espanyol once again surviving in 17th place. It was also Óscar's final season at the club, bringing his playing career to an end in 2004.

This #6 Umbro away shirt is an interesting reminder of Óscar García's less-talked-about years at Espanyol, when a former Barcelona midfielder became part of their city rivals during two challenging seasons in La Liga.
