The First Real Madrid Shirt After Ronaldo

When Adidas revealed Real Madrid’s 2018/19 home shirt, the club had just completed an extraordinary run of three consecutive Champions League victories.

Then everything changed.

Cristiano Ronaldo left for Juventus, Zinedine Zidane stepped down and Real Madrid entered its first season without the two figures most closely linked to that European run. The shirt therefore began as the kit of the reigning European champions but quickly became associated with the difficult task of starting again.

Number 22 belonged to Isco in the senior squad that season, but this specific shirt should not be connected directly to him. This was the first Real Madrid home shirt after the Ronaldo era ended, the point where one of football’s most successful modern teams suddenly had to work out what came next.
