The Shirt from Arango’s Favourite Goal

This home shirt comes from the season Juan Arango truly became Mallorca’s main man.

On 17 September 2005, Mallorca faced Real Sociedad after losing their opening two league matches. Arango responded with a second-half hat-trick as the team turned a 2–1 deficit into a 5–2 victory. Official club footage shows Mallorca wearing this red home design.

The third goal was the one people remembered. Arango received a throw-in with his back to goal, controlled it on his chest and struck a turning volley before the ball touched the ground.

Nearly 20 years later, Arango was asked to choose the best goal he had ever scored. That volley was still his answer. He described the control, the turn and the finish himself and even remembered that it completed his hat-trick.

That gives this shirt a story most people would never guess from looking at it. It is the Mallorca design connected to the goal their greatest Venezuelan player still considers his finest piece of work.
