Manchester United 2007/08 Training White (Large)

This white Nike top comes from Manchester United’s 2007/08 training collection, during the club’s AIG era.

Unlike the match shirts, it uses a looser training design with black curved side panels, a red Nike logo and the small Total 90 detail below the collar. The AIG sponsor remained across the chest, giving the training range the same instantly recognisable look as United’s playing kits from the period. Nike was the club’s manufacturer and AIG its main sponsor throughout the season. 

The squad wearing this training range included Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Carlos Tevez, Paul Scholes, Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs. Their work at Carrington led to an exceptional campaign: United retained the Premier League title and then defeated Chelsea on penalties in Moscow to win the Champions League. Ronaldo finished the season with 42 goals in all competitions and won the Premier League Golden Boot. 

Because it is a training shirt, its appeal is different from a home or away kit. It represents the side of that famous team seen between matches: the sessions, preparation and everyday routine behind the trophies. The clean white colour and unusual black panels also make it a less obvious piece from the 2007/08 double-winning season, especially for collectors who already own the better-known match shirts.
