In 1992/93, Manchester United won their first league title in 26 years. Their biggest moment came against Sheffield Wednesday on 10 April 1993, when they were losing 1-0 with just minutes remaining. Captain Steve Bruce scored twice, including a dramatic stoppage-time winner, to complete a 2-1 comeback. United went on to finish ten points ahead of Aston Villa and become the first Premier League champions. The following season, they won both the league and FA Cup, completing their first domestic double.

Manchester United Ended a 26-Year League Title Drought With Their First Premier League Trophy

When the Premier League began in August 1992, Manchester United hadn't won the English league title since 1967. Alex Ferguson had spent years trying to bring the trophy back to Old Trafford, but Liverpool, Arsenal and Leeds had all finished ahead of United in previous seasons.

The arrival of Eric Cantona from Leeds in November 1992 changed the team's fortunes. Playing alongside Ryan Giggs, Mark Hughes, Paul Ince and Bryan Robson, Cantona helped United challenge Aston Villa for the title. By April, the race was still close and every result mattered.

On 10 April 1993, Manchester United hosted Sheffield Wednesday at Old Trafford. With United trailing 1-0 late in the match, Steve Bruce headed in an equaliser before scoring again deep into stoppage time. The 2-1 victory sparked incredible celebrations, with Ferguson and assistant manager Brian Kidd celebrating on the touchline.

United won their final seven league matches and finished ten points clear of Aston Villa, securing their first championship in 26 years. They followed it up in 1993/94 by winning the Premier League and beating Chelsea 4-0 in the FA Cup final to complete their first league and FA Cup double.
