Everton 2009/10 Le Coq Sportif Training Sweatshirt (Medium)

When Le Coq Sportif returned to Everton for the 2009/10 season, it was not simply another change of supplier.

The French brand had previously dressed the Everton side of the mid-1980s, when players such as Neville Southall, Graeme Sharp and Kevin Sheedy helped the club win league titles and the European Cup Winners’ Cup. Everton’s 2009 deal brought the rooster logo back for the first time since that celebrated period. 

This sweatshirt belongs to the training range from the first season of that return. The navy and pink combination also fits the wider Everton collection from the period, when Le Coq Sportif used unusually bold colours instead of playing it safe.

The 2009/10 team recovered from a difficult start to finish eighth in the Premier League, with 61 points. But the stronger story here is the manufacturer connection: an official training piece from the year Everton revived a partnership supporters already associated with one of the club’s greatest teams. 

For an Everton collector, that makes it more interesting than a random training top. It captures the moment an old badge, an old brand and a lot of 1980s nostalgia returned to the club’s clothing.
