This shirt comes from a very unusual chapter in Racing de Santander's kit history: in 2002/03, the club used its own Racing label instead of an outside manufacturer. Austral had supplied the previous season, while Diadora arrived for 2003/04, making the in-house experiment a one-season run. Racing had just returned to La Liga, where they finished 16th and earned a place in the following season's Intertoto Cup.

The One Season Racing Made Their Own Shirts

For 2002/03, Racing de Santander did something rarely seen at top-flight level: they wore shirts produced under their own Racing brand. It sat between two established suppliers: Austral in 2001/02 and Diadora from 2003/04, so the club-branded range lasted for just that single season.

The timing made it even more distinctive. Racing had just won promotion back to La Liga after finishing second in the Segunda División in 2001/02 and the newly promoted side survived their first season back by finishing 16th. That league position also sent them into the 2003/04 UEFA Intertoto Cup.

This black shirt was the Away 2 option from that one-season Racing-made collection.
