On 16 December 2007, Carlos Tevez scored the only goal as Manchester United beat Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield. Just before half-time, Ryan Giggs took a corner, Wayne Rooney fired a shot towards goal and Tevez redirected it into the net from close range. United held on for the victory despite Liverpool creating several chances. It was Tevez's first season at the club, which ended with Manchester United winning both the Premier League and Champions League.

THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

Tevez Scored the Winner at Anfield in His First Season at Manchester United

In the summer of 2007, Carlos Tevez joined Manchester United after helping West Ham avoid relegation. He took the number 32 shirt and became part of an attacking trio alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney. By December, United were competing with Arsenal for the Premier League title and a trip to Liverpool was one of their biggest challenges of the season.

On 16 December 2007, United travelled to Anfield wearing their black away kit. Liverpool started strongly, with Fernando Torres causing problems for the defence. But in the 43rd minute, Ryan Giggs delivered a corner to Wayne Rooney near the edge of the penalty area. Rooney struck the ball towards goal and Tevez was perfectly positioned to turn it into the net from close range.

Liverpool continued pushing for an equaliser, but United defended their lead and won 1-0. The victory was especially important in such a close title race. Tevez went on to score 14 Premier League goals that season, helping United finish two points ahead of Chelsea. He also played in the Champions League final against Chelsea, scoring his penalty in the shootout as United became European champions.

That black Nike away shirt became part of one of Manchester United's most successful seasons and Tevez's winning goal at Anfield was one of its most memorable moments.
