Luis García Scored His Last Liverpool Goal Just Ten Days Before His Career at Anfield Ended

On 30 December 2006, Liverpool travelled to White Hart Lane to face Tottenham. The match was still 0-0 just before half-time when Luis García scored to give Liverpool the lead. His goal proved to be the winner, as Rafael Benítez's team held on for a 1-0 victory. It was García's third Premier League goal of the season.

Ten days later, everything changed. Liverpool faced Arsenal in the League Cup on 9 January 2007 and lost 6-3. During the match, García suffered a serious injury to his right knee. Tests confirmed he had torn his anterior cruciate ligament, ruling him out for around six months. He missed the rest of Liverpool's season, including their Champions League final against AC Milan.

García never played another competitive match for Liverpool. He joined Atlético Madrid in July 2007, ending a three-year spell in which he had won the Champions League and FA Cup. Liverpool supporters still remembered him for his important European goals, especially the controversial winner against Chelsea in 2005. His goal against Tottenham turned out to be his last in a Liverpool shirt, bringing an unexpected end to a much-loved player's time at Anfield.
