Nike made Italy’s 1997/98 home shirt, but there was a strange catch: the Azzurri were not allowed to wear the Nike Swoosh on the pitch. Italy’s federation still prohibited technical-supplier branding on senior match shirts, so the players wore a logo-free version at the 1998 World Cup while supporters could buy shirts like this one with the Swoosh proudly embroidered on the chest. The rule finally changed in 1999, when Kappa became the first supplier permitted to place its logo on an Italy match shirt.
