By full time, Milan’s title defence was over and Juventus were champions, making this one of those Inter shirts tied to a night where beating the neighbours meant even more than usual.

The Shirt Sneijder Wore the Night Inter Ended Milan’s Title Defence

This shirt was on the pitch for one of the nastiest possible ways to lose a title race: watching your city rivals help finish it. On 6 May 2012, Sneijder started for Inter against AC Milan with the Rossoneri still chasing Juventus at the top of Serie A.

The derby turned into chaos. Milito scored three, Ibrahimović scored twice for Milan and then Maicon smashed in a spectacular fourth to seal a 4-2 Inter win. Sneijder played until the closing minutes, even delivering a corner that led to a Cambiasso header Inter believed had crossed the line.

When the whistle went, Juventus had secured the Scudetto and Milan’s defence of the title was finished. Fittingly, the shirt itself was already a return to old-school Inter: Nike had ditched the previous season’s experimental serpent effect and brought back clean Nerazzurri stripes and a retro collar. A very traditional-looking shirt attached to a very untraditional derby night.
