Roberto Baggio’s time at Inter began during one of the most complicated periods of his career.

After winning the Ballon d’Or in 1993 and becoming one of the biggest stars in world football, Baggio struggled for consistency after leaving Juventus. His move to AC Milan brought a Serie A title, but injuries and limited playing time affected his role. In 1998, he joined Inter Milan looking for a new beginning.

The 1998/99 season became a reminder of why Baggio was considered one of football’s greatest talents.

Wearing the iconic number 10 shirt, he played alongside stars such as Ronaldo, Javier Zanetti, Youri Djorkaeff and Diego Simeone. Although Ronaldo was the team’s main attacking star, Baggio provided creativity, experience and moments of magic.

One of his most famous performances came in the Champions League against Real Madrid. With Inter needing a result to qualify, Baggio scored twice in a 3–1 victory at the Santiago Bernabéu, producing one of the best European nights of his career.

His form was so impressive that Italy coach Cesare Maldini selected him for the 1998 World Cup squad, where Baggio scored against Austria and showed he was still one of Italy’s most gifted players.
