When Barcelona released their yellow away shirt in 2018, the colour was a tribute to one of the club's best seasons. Barcelona Brought Back Their Lucky Yellow Shirt to Celebrate Their 2006 Champions League Win

In July 2018, Barcelona and Nike introduced a bright yellow away shirt inspired by the club's 2005/06 season. That year, Barça won La Liga and their second European Cup, with players such as Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto'o and Deco. Nike wanted to bring back the colour that supporters remembered from that period, while celebrating 20 years of working with Barcelona.

The biggest moment of that 2005/06 season came on 17 May 2006, when Barcelona faced Arsenal in the Champions League final in Paris. Arsenal took the lead through Sol Campbell despite having goalkeeper Jens Lehmann sent off earlier in the match. Barça struggled to find a goal until Henrik Larsson helped set up Samuel Eto'o's equaliser in the 76th minute. Five minutes later, Larsson assisted Juliano Belletti, who scored the winner. Barcelona won 2-1 and became European champions for the first time in 14 years.

For the 2018/19 version, Nike kept the famous bright yellow colour but added red-and-blue details on the sleeves and a Catalan flag on the back of the collar. Barcelona went on to win La Liga that season, adding another title to the history of their yellow away shirts.
