In 1999/00, Deportivo de La Coruña became Spanish champions for the first time in their history. They sealed the title with a 2-0 win against Espanyol, six years after a missed penalty had cost them the league on the final day. Their green Adidas away shirt became a favourite among supporters and in December 2023, Deportivo brought the design back for their 117th anniversary. It was a tribute to one of the club's best periods.

THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

Deportivo Won La Liga in 2000, Then Brought Back This Shirt 23 Years Later

In 1994, Deportivo de La Coruña were one penalty away from winning their first La Liga title. Miroslav Đukić stepped up against Valencia on the final day, but goalkeeper José Luis González saved his shot. Barcelona became champions instead and Deportivo had to wait another six years for their chance.

On 19 May 2000, Deportivo faced Espanyol at Riazor knowing a victory would finally make them champions. Donato scored after just four minutes and Roy Makaay added another in the 35th. The match finished 2-0 and Deportivo won La Liga for the first time with 69 points, finishing ahead of Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The green Adidas away shirt with its Feiraco sponsor was part of Deportivo's 1997-2000 collection. Supporters remembered it so fondly that the club brought it back in December 2023, complete with special packaging celebrating the matches played in the original design. The reissue became popular, showing how much the shirt still meant to Deportivo fans more than 20 years later.
