On 9 April 1994, Chelsea faced Luton Town in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley. Gavin Peacock scored twice in a 2-0 victory, sending Chelsea into their first FA Cup final since winning the competition in 1970. The match was also special because former Chelsea striker Kerry Dixon was playing for Luton. Chelsea eventually lost the final 4-0 to Manchester United, but reaching Wembley was an important moment in Glenn Hoddle's first season as manager.

THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

Chelsea Reached Their First FA Cup Final in 24 Years With Two Goals From Gavin Peacock

In the 1993/94 season, Chelsea were still trying to establish themselves in the new Premier League. Glenn Hoddle had arrived as player-manager and while their league form was inconsistent, their FA Cup campaign gave supporters something to celebrate.

After beating Sheffield Wednesday, Oxford United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, Chelsea reached the semi-finals, where they faced Luton Town at Wembley on 9 April 1994. There was an interesting connection between the two teams: Kerry Dixon, who had scored 193 goals during nine years at Chelsea, was now playing for Luton.

Gavin Peacock opened the scoring in the 12th minute and added his second shortly after half-time. Chelsea won 2-0, securing their first FA Cup final appearance in 24 years. For supporters who had waited since the club's 1970 triumph, it was a memorable afternoon at Wembley.

The final against Manchester United on 14 May ended in a 4-0 defeat, with Eric Cantona scoring twice from the penalty spot. Despite the disappointment, Chelsea's cup run was an important step for a club beginning to rebuild its reputation. The blue Umbro shirt with the AMIGA sponsor belongs to this period, before Chelsea became regular contenders for major trophies.
