The Shirt Barcelona Wore When Their Libertadores Dream Began Again

Barcelona Sporting Club of Guayaquil is one of Ecuador’s biggest football institutions, but the mid-2000s were a difficult period. After dominating Ecuadorian football in previous decades and reaching two Copa Libertadores finals in the 1990s, the club entered a rebuilding phase and the 2007 season was part of that attempt to restore its reputation.

The shirt itself is pure Ecuadorian football culture: the bright yellow base, Marathon manufacturing and the huge Pilsener logo across the front. Pilsener has been closely linked with Barcelona SC for decades, making the sponsor almost as recognisable as the colours themselves among supporters.

The 2007 season also marked an important transition period before Barcelona SC’s later resurgence.
