Arild Stavrum went on a ridiculous home run in this Aberdeen design in spring 2001. He scored all three goals against St Mirren on 21 February, then six weeks later hit another hat-trick as Aberdeen beat Dundee United 4-1 at Pittodrie. The Norwegian finished 2000/01 as Aberdeen’s top scorer with 17 goals.

Stavrum Scored Two Pittodrie Hat-Tricks in Six Weeks in This Shirt

This was Arild Stavrum’s biggest scoring season in Aberdeen colours. On 21 February 2001, the Norwegian scored every goal in a 3-0 home win over St Mirren, his first Aberdeen hat-trick. Then on 4 April, he did it again against Dundee United, scoring with both feet and a header in a 4-1 win.

That second hat-trick was especially complete: Stavrum opened the scoring after six minutes, headed in his second from Robbie Winters’ free-kick and completed the treble late on when he went one-on-one with the goalkeeper. He finished the campaign with 17 goals, making him Aberdeen’s leading scorer for 2000/01.

Stavrum also produced one of the stranger Aberdeen anecdotes of the era. The club later recalled that, after a local journalist suggested his trademark long hair was holding him back, Stavrum cut it off, collected the hair and mailed it to the journalist. Two Pittodrie hat-tricks, 17 goals and a bag of hair in the post, not a bad story behind a very clean Puma shirt.
