This green third shirt spans one of the most interesting little periods in Venezia’s modern history. In 1998/99, they had only just returned to Serie A after 31 years away, looked in serious trouble, then Álvaro Recoba arrived in January and helped drag them clear of relegation. Venezia kept this exact third design for 1999/00 too, so one shirt neatly connects the famous Recoba survival season with the campaign that followed.

This Shirt Was There for Venezia’s Great Escape Then Stayed for Another Season

Venezia returned to Serie A in 1998 after 31 years outside the top flight, but the comeback nearly went wrong immediately. They spent the first half of 1998/99 near the bottom of the table before Álvaro Recoba arrived on loan from Inter in January.

Recoba and Filippo Maniero completely changed the season. The pair scored 23 goals between them in the second half of the campaign and in the penultimate round Recoba produced a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win over Inter that secured Venezia’s Serie A survival.

And this green Kronos third shirt actually belongs across both sides of that story. It was introduced in 1998/99, including an appearance against Juventus in May 1999, then carried over into 1999/00 instead of being replaced. That gives it something a lot of vintage shirts don’t have: it isn’t tied to just one campaign, but to the short window when Venezia went from a dramatic Serie A escape into another top-flight season.
