Sparta Praha 2015/17 Home (2XL)

When Sparta introduced this Nike home shirt in summer 2015, the club deliberately mixed something new with something familiar. The traditional dark red was given darker shoulders and sleeves, while the polo-style collar was inspired by Sparta shirts from the 1990s, an era associated with club figures such as Horst Siegl and Jozef Chovanec. Captain David Lafata even praised the design for being noticeably different while still unmistakably Sparta. 

What makes the shirt more interesting is that its story didn't end in 2016. Rather than introduce another home shirt, Sparta carried this exact design into the 2016/17 season, while replacing the away kit instead.

That second season unexpectedly connected the shirt to Tomáš Rosický. In August 2016, the Sparta academy graduate returned to Prague after leaving the club in 2001 and spending his career with Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal. Sparta described his return as the fulfilment of a long-awaited dream for supporters and Rosický was presented again in the club's kit with his No.10. 

He finally returned to the pitch for Sparta on 10 September 2016 against Mladá Boleslav, almost 16 years after his previous Czech league appearance. So what began as a 1990s-inspired Nike design ended up spanning two seasons and becoming the home shirt present for the return of one of Sparta's most famous homegrown players.
