This shirt comes from a season that looked pretty grim at first. After 13 league games, Espanyol were bottom of La Liga with just nine points, which cost Mauricio Pochettino his job. Javier Aguirre came in, turned the season around and had the club safe with several games still left, which gives this one-season away shirt a much better story than the table initially suggests.

Espanyol Were Bottom After 13 Games, Then Saved Themselves With Weeks to Spare

Espanyol’s 2012/13 season started badly enough that by late November they were 20th in La Liga with nine points from 13 matches. Mauricio Pochettino was dismissed and Javier Aguirre arrived with one clear job: keep the club up.

The turnaround was immediate. Aguirre went unbeaten in his first four league matches and Espanyol gradually climbed away from the bottom rather than spending the whole spring looking over their shoulder. By the end of the season, he had taken 25 league games and produced nine wins, eight draws and eight defeats, with survival secured several rounds before the finish. 

That context makes this bright Puma away shirt a lot more fun to own. It was only used for one season and it belongs to a campaign that went from dead last in November to comfortably staying in La Liga.
