Mexico Beat the USA 4-0 in Front of 120,000 Fans

On 25 July 1993, Mexico faced the United States in the Gold Cup final at the Estadio Azteca. Around 120,000 fans were there to watch two of CONCACAF's biggest rivals fight for the trophy. Mexico took the lead after 11 minutes through Ignacio Ambríz, before an own goal from Desmond Armstrong made it 2-0.

The USA couldn't find a way back. In the 69th minute, Luis Roberto Alves, better known as Zague, scored Mexico's third. Guillermo Cantú added another ten minutes later, completing a 4-0 victory. Mexico had won the Gold Cup in front of their home supporters and with a scoreline their rivals wouldn't forget anytime soon.

It was also the year Mexico made their Copa América debut and reached the final, where they lost to Argentina. The same period gave us this green Umbro design, with its detailed pattern woven into the fabric and classic white collar. It was also part of Mexico's look during the 1994 World Cup, making it a shirt connected to several big moments in the national team's history.
