Haaland Scored 52 Goals in His First Season and Won the Treble

In the summer of 2022, Manchester City signed Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund. At just 22 years old, he arrived with huge expectations, but few could have predicted how quickly he would start breaking records. He scored twice on his Premier League debut against West Ham and had already scored nine league goals after his first five appearances.

On 14 March 2023, Haaland produced one of his most memorable performances against RB Leipzig in the Champions League. He scored five goals in just 57 minutes, becoming only the third player to score five times in a single Champions League match. Manchester City won 7-0 and advanced to the quarter-finals.

Haaland finished the campaign with 52 goals in 53 appearances, including a record 36 in the Premier League. His goals helped City win the league title, beat Manchester United in the FA Cup final and defeat Inter Milan in Istanbul to win their first Champions League trophy. It was the first treble in Manchester City's history and one of the most successful debut seasons English football had ever seen.
