THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

The First Shirt of FC Dallas

This shirt comes from the year Dallas completely changed its football identity.

Before 2005, the MLS club had been known as the Dallas Burn. The new season introduced the FC Dallas name, the red-and-blue bull crest seen on this shirt and a cleaner image intended to give the club a stronger connection with traditional football culture.

The team also moved into its new purpose-built stadium during the campaign. So this was not simply another seasonal kit, it belonged to a full reset involving a new name, new badge and new home.

The first year under that identity nearly delivered a trophy too. FC Dallas reached the 2005 U.S. Open Cup final, becoming the first Texas team to appear in the final, before losing 1–0 to LA Galaxy.

That is what makes this understated grey away shirt genuinely important. It is from the exact season the Dallas Burn disappeared and the FC Dallas people recognise today bega, complete with the badge the club still wears.
