This jacket spans Bobby Robson’s one and only season as Barcelona manager and he somehow left with three trophies. In 1996/97, Barça won the Spanish Super Cup, Copa del Rey and Cup Winners’ Cup, with a 20-year-old Ronaldo scoring 47 goals. Robson was only ever a short-term appointment, but his single season ended up being one of the wildest of the decade.

THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

Barça Won Three Cups in Bobby Robson’s Only Season

Bobby Robson arrived in 1996 with the brutal job of replacing Johan Cruyff. Instead of easing into it, he inherited a dressing room featuring Guardiola, Figo, Luis Enrique, Stoichkov and a new 19-year-old Brazilian called Ronaldo Nazário.

That season turned into chaos in the best possible way. Ronaldo scored 47 goals, while Barcelona won the Spanish Super Cup, Copa del Rey and European Cup Winners’ Cup. In the European final against Paris Saint-Germain, Ronaldo scored the only goal from the penalty spot to give Barça a 1-0 victory.

And then Robson was effectively replaced anyway. Louis van Gaal took over after just one season, despite Robson having delivered three trophies and finished second in La Liga. This 1995/97 Kappa track jacket therefore covers the transition from late-Cruyff Barça into the one-season Robson/Ronaldo era that produced three cups and one of the most explosive individual seasons the club has ever seen.
