England went into their final EURO 2004 group match against Croatia needing a result to reach the quarter-finals and things started badly when Niko Kovač scored after just five minutes. England recovered, though, with goals from Paul Scholes and Wayne Rooney before half-time, then Rooney scored again after the break.

Croatia pulled one back to make it 3-2, so the game was still open until Beckham helped finish it. In the 79th minute, he supplied the pass for Frank Lampard to score England’s fourth, sealing a 4-2 win.
