Rosický Scored a 30-Yard Screamer and Nearly Completed a World Cup Hat-Trick

On 12 June 2006, the Czech Republic opened their World Cup campaign against the United States in Gelsenkirchen. Jan Koller gave them the lead after just five minutes, but it was Tomáš Rosický who stole the show. In the 36th minute, the midfielder unleashed a powerful shot from around 30 yards that flew into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper Kasey Keller with no chance.

Rosický almost produced something even more impressive in the second half. Another long-range effort struck the crossbar, denying him a spectacular second goal. He eventually got it in the 76th minute, running through on goal and calmly finishing past Keller to complete a 3-0 victory. Two goals and a near hat-trick made it a World Cup debut to remember.

The performance came at an exciting moment in Rosický's career. After five years at Borussia Dortmund, he had agreed to join Arsenal just weeks before the tournament. His combination of technique, creativity and powerful shooting had already earned him the nickname The Little Mozart. The Czech Republic's campaign ultimately ended in the group stage, but Rosický's performance against the United States remains one of the defining moments of his international career.
