Kaká’s Last World Cup as Brazil’s No.10

Nike launched this Brazil shirt for the 2010 World Cup with an intentionally simple look: classic yellow, a green crew neck and narrow green shoulder detailing. What was less traditional was the construction: Nike made its 2010 national-team shirts from 100% recycled polyester, with each jersey using material equivalent to up to eight discarded plastic bottles.

For Brazil, Kaká was still the No.10 and one of the key figures in Dunga’s team. South Africa was his third World Cup after 2002 and 2006, but it would also prove to be his last.

The yellow home shirt featured in Brazil’s Round-of-16 meeting with Chile. Kaká played a major role in the best move of the night, producing a first-time pass that released Luís Fabiano, who rounded Claudio Bravo and scored Brazil’s second in a 3-0 victory.

Brazil’s campaign ended against the Netherlands in the quarter-finals, where Kaká wore the blue away kit rather than this one. So the story of this specific yellow design finishes one round earlier: it is the home shirt from Kaká’s final World Cup, worn while Brazil still looked capable of adding a sixth star to the crest.
