Before becoming known as Kvaradona at Napoli, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was an 18-year-old winger playing for Rubin Kazan in Russia. He joined in 2019 and quickly started making a name for himself with his dribbling and creativity. Wearing #21, he spent three seasons at Rubin before moving back to Georgia and eventually joining Napoli, where he became a Serie A champion. THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

Before Kvaradona, There Was Rubin Kazan

In the summer of 2019, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia joined Rubin Kazan after a short spell at Lokomotiv Moscow. He was just 18 and still relatively unknown outside Georgia and Russia. Rubin gave him the opportunity to play regularly in the Russian Premier League, where his dribbling, quick feet and confidence taking on defenders soon attracted attention. In his first season, he made 27 league appearances, scoring three goals and providing two assists. He continued wearing #21, the number he had also used at Lokomotiv Moscow. 

Kvaratskhelia stayed at Rubin until 2022, becoming one of the league's most promising young players. After briefly returning to Georgia with Dinamo Batumi, he joined Napoli in the summer of 2022. His first season in Italy was a huge success: he scored 12 Serie A goals, helped Napoli win their first league title in 33 years and earned the nickname Kvaradona from supporters. His performances also helped turn him into one of Georgia's best-known footballers.

This Rubin Kazan #21 shirt is particularly interesting because it comes from the beginning of that journey, years before his Napoli breakthrough.
