THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

The Jacket from Palermo’s Last-Day Escape

This track jacket was part of Palermo’s 2015–16 Joma collection, using the club’s famous pink through sharp panels against a dark grey base.

The season was anything but calm. Palermo changed coaches repeatedly and spent most of the campaign fighting to stay out of the relegation places.

Everything came down to the final day against Hellas Verona. Franco Vázquez, Enzo Maresca and Alberto Gilardino scored as Palermo won 3–2 and stayed in Serie A by a single point.

Gilardino finished as the club’s leading league scorer with ten goals, but that last one against Verona mattered most. It gave Palermo the result they needed when there was no room left for mistakes.

For Palermo supporters, this jacket brings back the nerves and relief of that final night. It is not the shirt worn for the goals, but it belongs to the same squad and season, when the club looked finished, then somehow found a way to stay up.
