Iniesta Captained Barça to a Comeback Win the First Time They Wore This Shirt

On 28 September 2016, Barcelona travelled to Germany to face Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Champions League. It was the first time they wore their new turquoise third shirt. Lionel Messi was missing through injury, so Andrés Iniesta captained the team, playing alongside Sergio Busquets and Ivan Rakitić in midfield.

The match didn't start well. Thorgan Hazard put Mönchengladbach ahead in the 34th minute and Barcelona went into half-time losing 1-0. Luis Enrique made changes in the second half, bringing on Arda Turan, who scored the equaliser in the 65th minute. Eight minutes later, Gerard Piqué scored from close range to complete the comeback. Barcelona won 2-1.

Iniesta played the full 90 minutes as Barcelona took control of their Champions League group. The new shirt was also a change from the club's usual colours, mixing two shades of green with thin horizontal stripes. Nike had taken inspiration from Barcelona's older turquoise kits, giving the 2016/17 season a design that looked very different from the traditional red and blue.
