This navy rain jacket comes from the very beginning of Barcelona’s Nike era.

Nike and FC Barcelona started their partnership in 1998, meaning this was the first season the famous Swoosh appeared across Barça’s official kit and training range. The timing also coincided with one of the biggest moments in the club’s history: Barcelona’s centenary celebrations began in November 1998 and continued for an entire year.

There was plenty happening on the pitch too. Louis van Gaal led Barça to the 1998/99 La Liga title, securing a second consecutive championship.

And hidden inside that star-filled squad was an 18-year-old midfielder just starting his career. Xavi Hernández made his official Barcelona debut in August 1998, against Mallorca in the Spanish Super Cup and scored Barça’s goal in a 2–1 defeat.
