Ronaldo Scored 47 Goals in His Only Season at Barcelona

In the summer of 1996, Barcelona signed 19-year-old Ronaldo Nazário from PSV Eindhoven. Bobby Robson had just replaced Johan Cruyff as manager and Ronaldo quickly became the team's biggest star. His speed, strength and finishing made him almost impossible to defend against. By the end of the season, he had scored 47 goals in just 49 official appearances.

One of his most famous moments came on 12 October 1996 against Compostela. Ronaldo picked up the ball inside his own half, ran past several defenders and scored a goal that is still considered one of the best in Barcelona's history. He also scored 34 La Liga goals, winning the Pichichi Trophy and European Golden Shoe.

On 14 May 1997, Ronaldo scored the only goal against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final. Barcelona also won the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup, but Ronaldo's time at the club was already coming to an end. Contract disagreements led to his transfer to Inter Milan that summer. In just one season, he had become a Barcelona favourite and left supporters wondering what might have happened if he'd stayed longer.
