Barcelona hadn't won La Liga for 11 years when they travelled to Valladolid on 24 March 1985. With the score at 2-1, goalkeeper Urruti saved a penalty from Mágico González in the final minutes, securing Barcelona's first league title since 1974. The save became so famous that commentator Joaquim Maria Puyal shouted "Urruti, t'estimo!" ("Urruti, I love you!") It remains one of the most remembered moments in Barcelona's history.

Barcelona Won La Liga After Their Goalkeeper Saved a Last-Minute Penalty

On 24 March 1985, Barcelona travelled to face Real Valladolid knowing a win would secure their first La Liga title in 11 years. Terry Venables had taken charge that summer, shortly after Diego Maradona left for Napoli. With Bernd Schuster and Steve Archibald leading the team, Barcelona had been top of the league since the opening matchday.

Barcelona were leading 2-1 when Valladolid were awarded a penalty in the 87th minute. Mágico González stepped up with the chance to equalise, but goalkeeper Urruti saved his shot. As Barcelona celebrated, radio commentator Joaquim Maria Puyal shouted "Urruti, t'estimo!" The phrase became one of the most famous calls in Spanish football.

Six days later, Barcelona celebrated the title at Camp Nou before facing Sporting Gijón. Former players from all nine of the club's previous league-winning teams were invited onto the pitch and Barcelona went on to win 2-0. The 1984/85 title was particularly special because it ended a long wait for supporters.
