The Season CSKA Won Everything in Russia

CSKA Moscow entered 2006 with a difficult problem: how do you follow the greatest year in the club’s modern history?

In 2005, they had become the first Russian club to win a major European trophy. Instead of fading after that breakthrough, the team returned the following season and dominated at home.

CSKA won the Russian Premier League, lifted the Russian Cup and added the Russian Super Cup. The club’s own honours record confirms all three trophies, while UEFA describes the league-and-cup success as the Russian double of 2006. 

The squad included Igor Akinfeev, Sergei Ignashevich, Yuri Zhirkov, Daniel Carvalho, Vágner Love and the young Brazilian striker Jô. It was a team built around a mix of Russian internationals and Brazilian attacking talent and one that had already proved it could compete beyond its own league.

They also produced one of the season’s biggest European upsets, beating Arsenal 1–0 in the Champions League through a Daniel Carvalho goal.

This is the home design from the year CSKA followed European history with a complete domestic clean sweep. That gives it a much better identity than simply being another red club shirt from the mid-2000s.
