Athens Kallithea replaced the usual betting or airline sponsor with EMΣT, Athens’ National Museum of Contemporary Art. The shirt was then launched through an abstract fashion campaign inside a converted 1950s textile factory, closer to an art editorial than a normal football-kit reveal.

THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

The Football Shirt Sponsored by an Art Museum

Athens Kallithea have turned shirt releases into part of the club’s identity and this blackout third shirt is probably their clearest example.

Instead of a normal commercial sponsor, the front carries EMΣT, the National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens. The crest, Kappa logos and museum wordmark are all finished in reflective black, appearing more clearly as the light changes. It is subtle on purpose rather than built to shout from a distance. 

The launch followed the same idea. Photographer Yiorgos Mavropoulos shot the campaign at Mona Athens, a boutique hotel created inside a former textile factory in the Psyrri district. The images were presented as an abstract black-and-white editorial rather than players standing in a stadium holding the collar. 

Athens Kallithea then carried the full kit collection into 2025/26 instead of replacing it after one year.

That makes the short-sleeve version easy to wear without losing the story behind it: a blackout Kappa shirt tied to contemporary art, independent design and one of football’s smartest recent club rebrands.
