The Shirt from a 5–5 European Semi-Final

This Sampdoria shirt comes from a European tie that had basically everything.

In the 1995 Cup Winners’ Cup semi-final, Sampdoria faced defending champions Arsenal. They lost the first leg 3–2 in London, meaning they needed a comeback in Genoa.

The return match became chaos. Teenage substitute Claudio Bellucci scored twice late on, including a goal that briefly put Sampdoria ahead in the tie. He celebrated the first by removing this famous blue shirt and running towards the supporters.

Sampdoria won the match 3–2, leaving the teams level at 5–5 across the two legs. There was still no winner after extra time, so the entire semi-final came down to penalties. Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman saved three, ending Sampdoria’s dream of reaching another European final.

The squad was pure 1990s Serie A: Roberto Mancini, Ruud Gullit, Attilio Lombardo, Siniša Mihajlović and Walter Zenga, managed by Sven-Göran Eriksson.
