THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

120 Years Old and Almost Unbeatable

Sparta Prague marked their 120th birthday in 2013/14 and the celebration was built directly into this shirt through the special badge positioned between the Nike logo and the club crest.

The timing could hardly have worked out better. Sparta dominated the Czech league, winning all 15 home matches and collecting 79 points, then a competition record. They lost only once across the entire league campaign, after remaining the only unbeaten top-flight team in Europe as late as April.

The season also produced two standout individual performances. Captain David Lafata scored 16 league goals, while midfielder Josef Hušbauer finished as the division’s top scorer with 18, an unusual achievement for a player operating behind the striker.

Sparta then faced Viktoria Plzeň in the Czech Cup final. The match ended 1–1 before Sparta won a long penalty shootout 8–7, completing their first domestic double in seven years.

So the badge is not just a decorative anniversary detail. It identifies the version worn during a record-breaking birthday season, when Sparta won almost everything available and turned 120 with one of the best campaigns in their modern history.
