Middlesbrough striker Szilárd Németh put Slovakia 1-0 up after 24 minutes, meaning England went into half-time behind. Németh Put Slovakia Ahead Against England, Then Beckham and Owen Stole It

On 12 October 2002, Slovakia hosted England in Euro 2004 qualifying at a packed Tehelné pole. The home side struck first through Szilárd Németh, who was playing his club football in England with Middlesbrough at the time. His 24th-minute goal sent Slovakia into the break 1-0 ahead against a team featuring Beckham, Gerrard, Scholes and Owen. 

The lead lasted until the 64th minute, when Beckham’s long-range free-kick found the net. Then, with eight minutes remaining, Owen headed England in front and completed the comeback. It was a difficult night on a soaked pitch, with Slovakia forcing the favourites to fight their way back into the game.
