The Shirt from Slavia’s Back-to-Back Title

This black Umbro shirt comes from the season Slavia Prague finally started feeling at home again.

After years of temporary grounds and uncertainty, the club opened its new stadium in Eden in May 2008. Slavia had already ended a 12-year wait for the league title, but the next challenge was proving that success was not a one-off.

They did exactly that in 2008–09. Slavia defended the Czech championship, becoming the first club to retain the title since the beginning of the decade. One of the season’s standout moments came in the Prague derby, when they beat Sparta 4–1 away from home.

The shirt also appeared during a period when the club was rebuilding its European reputation. Slavia faced Fiorentina in Champions League qualifying before continuing into the UEFA Cup, where the new Eden stadium hosted European nights against teams including Aston Villa.

Most people know Slavia for the red-and-white half-and-half shirt. That is exactly why this black version stands out: it comes from their back-to-back title era, during the club’s first full season in its long-awaited new home, but looks completely different from the design everyone expects.
