THE STORY BEHIND THE SHIRT

The Night Scotland Stunned the Netherlands

This was Scotland’s first home shirt made by Diadora, introduced during the final stages of the Euro 2004 qualifying campaign. The navy design featured white curved panels and yellow detailing around the crest and manufacturer logo.

Scotland finished second in their qualifying group behind Germany and reached a two-legged play-off against the Netherlands.

In the first leg at Hampden Park, James McFadden scored in the 22nd minute to secure a famous 1–0 victory against a Dutch team featuring players such as Ruud van Nistelrooy, Clarence Seedorf and Jaap Stam.

The Netherlands won the return leg 6–0, ending Scotland’s hopes of reaching Euro 2004. Even so, the Hampden victory remains one of Scotland’s most memorable results of that period.

This shirt is collectible because it was Diadora’s first Scotland home design and was worn during McFadden’s famous winner against the Netherlands.
