The Away Shirt from Scotland’s Road to France ’98

This yellow Umbro shirt was Scotland’s away design during the 1996–98 international cycle.

It arrived after Euro 96, where Scotland had worn their navy tartan home shirt in every group match. The new away kit replaced that tournament’s white change design with a much brighter yellow look.

The shirt’s black shoulders, red trim and fading graphic across the lower front make it one of Scotland’s boldest 1990s designs. The large shield-shaped crest adds even more character.

Its period coincided with Craig Brown guiding Scotland through qualification for the 1998 World Cup in France, the country’s second consecutive major tournament.

The unusual colour and unmistakable Umbro styling make this a strong piece from the final Scotland team to reach a men’s World Cup until 2026.
